I'm a visual artist. I make sculptures and drawings. I'm now working on a series of beeswax Braids. I can tell you that these evolved from a series of Funnel sculptures, but this probably only makes sense if you see the work. I also teach drawing classes and I have my own business.
I love plays and movies and see a lot of art. Favorite plays of recent years were The Pillowman and Hurly Burly. Favorite recent art exhibits were Martin Ramirez at the Folk Art Museum and German Expressionist Portraits at the Met, "Glitter & Doom." It seems this list reflects my dark side. It's true I'm not interested in musicals, but I do like Matisse.
The music I most like going out to hear is jazz and chamber music. Dead - Monk and Bach. Living - Cyrus Chestnut and Angela Hewitt. Hmm, heavy on the piano. Well, then there's Martha Wainwright.
In the warm months I ride my bike in Central and Riverside Park. And every month of the year I walk. I love the water. If I could swim and sail every day, life would be perfect. It's not quite perfect, but in the summer I almost always find my way to Vermont.
I'm easy going, honest, and direct. I care deeply about the things I care about. Information makes its way into my home via NPR, The New Yorker, the friday edition of the NY Times, and by way of rumor. I love talking (and listening) about most everything. And, apparently for this site, a word about sex: Yes.
Also, I collect quotes. So, one for here and one for there. Here: Yogi Berra - "If you come to a fork in the road, take it."
My Ideal Person:
A woman who enjoys her life and is comfortable with herself. You appreciate what NYC has to offer inside of walls and out. Essential qualities are integrity and a sense of play & humor. There: William Saroyan - "And the first thing I heard was the laughter of an unseen girl, a laughter that made me believe everything was worthwhile."
The last great book I read Everything You Need by A. L. Kennedy; American Pastoral by Philip Roth; Enduring Love by Ian McEwan
Favorite on-screen sex scene The History of Violence
The celebrity I resemble the most I heard Daniel Auteuil for a while. As my hair grew it changed to Daniel Day-Lewis. I seem to be working my way through the Daniels.
If I could be anywhere right now Swimming in Vermont or walking in Paris
Five items I can't live without pencils, paper, my bicycle, my CD with Coltrane & Ellington playing "In a Sentimental Mood" & an assortment of great cheeses
